"Its easy to go hard, but it's hard to go smart."

How many times have you heard me say this? It is my favorite mantra, a rallying cry, a reminder, and a plea to make easy effort cool again (yes, once upon a time jogging was cool!)

If last month was our 'last abnormal August', then what is September? (Don't ask me Why is September, HRH is in school and though I'm sad, I have QUIET TIME and am in a bit of shock because it has been 3 years since I had that!!!)

To me, September is the last REALLY GREAT running month. It's still light outside in the mornings and evenings, the days are definitely cooler but not too much shorter yet, and if you aren't where you want to be right now fitness-wise, now is a great time to give yourself permission to do whatever you want to do. Join that pilates class. Try Zumba. Do Hard Core On the Floor with Coach Nikkia (it's a Peloton thing and NO I do not understand!!!!). Whatever you want to do, NOW is the time to start doing it before the days get short and cold weather sets in. Everything is easy when you are fit, especially getting out of bed at dark o'clock to go for a job. Lay the groundwork now for easier things, later!

We only have to follow strict rules when we are training for something. The rest of the time, especially in times when we are just trying to ReBuild fitness habits, we have a lot more freedom. Here are the only two rules to follow when you are ReBuilding the way I am right now:

  1. keep easy days EASY else you've wasted the hard days

  2. stack your hard workouts; do not go hard two days in a row.

It's easy to go hard, it's hard to go smart. Those two rules are all you need to be a smarty-pants this September.

As for me, I'm feeling better than I have in a long time. My body is healing, and though I can't jog for an hour yet without stopping I can get on my bike and do harder workouts. This is what I'm choosing to do on Mondays and Wednesdays in order to build muscle back, faster. My hard workouts are on the bike, everything else is outdoors, moving. Some days are smarter than others, but seriously who is counting?

Please DO NOT EVER FORGET: You are never as far behind as you fear you may be. If you aren't sure what's your best next step is, need help sorting through cheesecake options, or just wanna chat, PLEASE sign up for Office Hours and let me tell you how awesome you are. It's my most favoritest thing to do!
