Blue Skies and Lemonade Stands

I'm TIRED.


It could be because I've started running again, or because the air is gross, or because I've been spending 4+ hours EACH DAY driving for most of the month. Who can say? What I do know is that I come home and fall face-first on my bed each night and don't wake up until my kids shake me the next morning.


(maybe I'm not tired I'm just old!)


August is scorching but lovely, the final stages of summer floating on by like a lazy river of time. This will be my fifth summer since the world blew up, the fifth year of my life not marked by sunburns and the early stages of marathon training. I'm not mourning or grieving as much as I am adjusting. Runs are still in minutes, and those minutes feel like hours in a body that remembers what running is but can't get the lungs to cooperate. Five Augusts of not being pregnant or productive feels like a weird way to mark time, but I don't yet have a 'new'. I haven't given up on anything, I'm trying to meet my body where it's at and not worry about the distance between here and where I want to be, just like I tell my marathoners to do. August means blue skies and lemonade stands, and sticky hands and big-kid kisses and sweaty stinky runs in thick humid air. For now, that'll do. It's all so lovely.


Whether you are tired or energetic, I'm just glad you are HERE! Please don't judge yourself, just let yourself be wherever you are right now. It may not be familiar, but it doesn't have to be bad or say anything bad about you. You survived, and we can't thrive without survival, amirite?

Rebuilders will have a steady run with high knees instead of strides. These will help your legs remember that quick turnover of running, strengthen your glutes, and get your heart racing!


Maintainers will have two fun floating runs with alternating recovery intervals. I hope you enjoy these as much as I think you will!
