Its already chaos!

I am so, SO sorry this was late going out!!!! WiFi in Telluride was so bad this time I didn’t even get to post about my special visitor- Coach Cavilyn!!!!

Here We Go Again!

2025. That number sounds made-up. I just got used to writing XX/XX/24!!!!!

Coach MK, recovering from surgery, in bed wearing gold earrings and bright red lipstick from Violette FR
After getting a makeover from my daughter I’m thinking red lipstick is what I need MOARRR of in 2025!

Yall know I don’t do resolutions. I prefer to roar into the new year so that it makes room for ME! Am thinking of maybe wearing makeup again, which is funny because makeup hasn’t been a daily habit since 2011, the last year I had a traditional office job that fit in nicely on a LinkedIn page.

It’s hard to believe that was nearly 15 years ago. It’s even harder to believe it’s been 10 years since I completed an RRCA certification and started coaching for LifeTime in Centennial. Or that it’s been nearly 7 years since I opened Fitness Protection. MATH WHUT?????

When coaching my marathoners, I always encourage them to focus on how far they’ve gone, celebrating key milestones we selected together, because looking ahead and how much further a person has to go can be overwhelming. I think this also applies to the start of a new year. Resolutions are a way of pretending we have control over the future, and personally I gave up on any illusions of control in 2011, when in the same week I was laid off and told I was pregnant. I was terrified! If you had told me then that 15 years later I would be a mom of 4 and a run coach in Denver, CO, I wouldn’t have believed you! None of that was in my plan or on my radar!

Let me tell you, these past 15 years have been better, full of more adventure and love, than anything I could have imagined in 2011. I was an unemployed, pregnant, newly married newly minted Ivy League MBA with a mountain of debt living in the most expensive city in the world. How I got from there to here wasn’t due to The Best Plan™️, but to a combination of luck and making space for the one thing I needed to stay sane- which was my daily run.

I know a lot of us are scared right now, for all kinds of reasons. I’m not going to tell you not to feel your feelings, I’m just going to encourage you not to respond to those feelings by overplanning, over stressing, and making your life harder than it needs to be right now. Find the one thing you can’t live without and make as much time for it as you possibly can, every day. The rest will fall into place around you, whether you like it or not, plans be damned. And I will be here through all of it, even if I can’t reach you because the snow killed my WiFi.

If you want me to tell you how I can’t live without you, hop in Office Hours. (Click the word "office hours" to book!)…. My surgery was successful, I feel better than I have in YEARS!, but I’m still taking it easy and hanging out in bed until I’m cleared to lift things. Let’s chat!!!

You are coached. You are loved. And I can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store for all of us. ❤️❤️❤️💙💙💙

This Month’s Workouts

We are going back to basics- grab your loops!!! (If you don’t have any, click here to see what I’m talking about. Best $8 you will invest in your booty!) The strength moves target your little side glutes, the ones your big glutes depend on for stability. When they are strong and active, running feels effortless! When they aren’t working, well, you aren’t either! These moves aren’t anyone’s favorite but they are great for pre-run dynamic warm-ups on cold days and will win you a gold star from your physical therapist!

Rebuilders will have a fun progressive run/walk series with jumping jacks built in for extra warmth!

Maintainers will get to enjoy a cutback month, with shorter long runs and less structured tempo work. January-April isn’t the time for track or speed work, it’s the time to get ready for track and speed work in the spring before marathon training plans kick in! This quarter is your time to go crazy- join your friends for OrangeTheory or a PowerHot Yoga class. Do all the fun things now before the marathon sucks the fun out of your calendar!
